Fine Press Book of Poems by Adrienne Rich
Rich, Adrienne TWENTY-ONE LOVE POEMS
$275.00Emeryville, CA: Effie’s Press, (1976.) First edition – A rather uncommon – and wonderful – collection of poems by Rich, poems which are both very personal and political which move from listening to Nina Simone in the kitchen to the torture of a political prisoner – “I let myself into the kitchen, unload my bundles, make coffee, open the window, put on Nina Simone singing ‘Here comes the sun. . . .’ I open the mail, drinking delicious coffee, delicious music, my body still both light and heavy with you. The mail lets fall a Xerox of something written by a man aged 27, a hostage, tortured in prison” – but underneath all is love, a strong and enduring love between two women. Square format in stiff wrappers, with attached outer wrapper. One of only 1000 copies, hand-bound, and designed and printed by Bonnie L. Carpenter (plus 26 lettered). Unpaginated. Condition: Very near fine in wrappers. (previous owner’s name and date – that of poet Elizabeth Harrod.)
